AI is a disruptive technology that is rapidly transforming the way that therapies are discovered, evidence is synthesized, diagnoses are made, and healthcare is delivered. However, physicians are largely unprepared and lack the basic understanding of how these technologies work that is needed to harness these technologies while avoiding pitfalls, and to participate in discussions about how they should and should not be implemented.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this talk, attendees should be able to appreciate the landscape of different types of AI, list some of the most compelling use cases, and understand their limitations and potential risks.

Dr. Ilan Schwartz, MD, PhD
Associate Professor, Duke University

Ilan Schwartz is an ID physician and researcher and medical director of the ID Clinical Research Unit at Duke University. His clinical practice focuses on transplant-associated infections, and his research is primarily focused on invasive fungal infections. He has an interest in the uses of artificial intelligence in the field of infectious diseases and has presented widely on the topic.
